Today FeedBurner opened up two features for that used to be exclusively for pro users: TotalStats and MyBrand.
TotalStats is what it sounds like, and will give you much more in depth stats on your feed. MyBrand allows you to move your feed onto your own domain name, so you don’t have feedburner.com in your RSS address. I think the smartest part of all of this is rolling out the free MyBrand later on in the game like this. I use FeedBurner and I love it. I never even minded having a feedburner address attached to my RSS feed. At one point it was almost a status simple, showing that you know what you’re doing, and that you know what RSS is, as opposed to RSS just being something built into your blogging software. But the late roll out of the free MyBrand, quite frankly means that I’m not going to switch. My RSS feed link has been the same for about a year. I’m not going to switch over and lose any subscribers. I just don’t think it’s worth losing people by asking them to switch over. So for FeedBurner it’s a win-win. They get to look like the good guys, announcing some free features, and still keep users using their feed.feedburner addresses. Good work FeedBurner!
You won’t loose your readers. Take a look here: “Please note: This does not in fact change where your feed lives. The feeds.feedburner.com address is still valid, and feeds.yourdomain.com is just an alternate URL that users can use to access your feed. That’s good news: all of your subscribers today will continue to get your feed content without having to resubscribe.” (mail from FeedBurner support)
See, this is why Google should acquire everything… make it all free. haha :P
