What is a tumblelog?

What is a tumblelog? It can be a difficult thing to answer, especially with so many tumblr accounts being used for so many different things, and the word being tossed around left and right. So what is a tumblelog? I thought I’d take a stab at a definition, by explaining how I use tumbl.us

A tumblelog is a stream of consciousness. A series of images, links, videos, quotes, and short blurbs that don’t necessarily share a common thread, but can collectively be pieced together to form a personality. If a conversations exists, it doesn’t exist on the tumblelog itself, but throughout the entire internet. If I expect to see feedback anywhere, it’s on someone else’s site.

So if you wonder what I’m posting here as opposed to what I’m posting on tumbl.us, that might give you an idea.
