I always love finding side projects coming from some of my favorite artists. One of the best bands to look at in terms of interesting and numerous side projects is Converge. I’m sure I’ll point out a few more in the future, but at the moment, I’m talking about Kid Kilowatt.
The Converge connection here is guitarist Kurt Ballou, who is a member of Kilowatt, and also records them. And did I mention the group also features Cave In mastermind Stephen Brodsky? No, I know I didn’t, but I had to point that out.
While Converge and Cave In were both in the midst of their heaviest stages, Kid Kilowatt’s first and only LP, “Guitar Method” is in sharp contrast. From the Fugazi-esque sound of songs like “The Scope” to the almost folk-like around-the-camp-fire sound of “Rushing to Relax,” I think it’s fair to say that fans of Converge and Cave In would be surprised.
I’ve attached the previously mentioned “The Scope.” I’d highly recommend finding yourself a copy of the full album if you enjoy it.
