I use Technorati’s blog reactions all the time to see who’s linking back to me or referencing posts in their own blogs. Great ego boost of course, but also very useful for continuing conversations beyond just comments. Comments are great for feedback, but sometimes you have more to say than a comment will do justice. There also is the glory of writing it in your own blog to your own audience. But for the reasons stated, I thought I’d try to incorporate that into pixelspread. You should now notice the reactions right under the comments on the right side, with the number of blog reactions listed.
You can always do the same to your blog using the Technorati Link Count tool. The problem with that tool though is that it’s already styled, and will display the link in green with a technorati logo. No self respecting designer would let that fly, so I’ve come up with a little hack to still get the reaction count number that comes with the javascript widget, without all the fluff. If you’d like to use my javascript, you can find it right here. To style the links, I’m using a class around the link and some CSS like .class a{}.
Hopefully this will continue the conversation beyond the comments if you feel you’ve got more to say. I noticed a lot of that when I brought up tumblr comments. So now all you’ve got to do to be counted as a reaction is to link back to the post you’re referring to (assuming you’re indexed by technorati).
