Since I got Helvetica on DVD, I’ve probably watched it about 5 times, extra features included. All of my friends are sick of hearing me talk about it, but if you haven’t seen it yet, just drop the $20 and get it, or ask for it as a gift this holiday season. I don’t care how you get it, just do it.
But anyway, not only is the movie fantastic, so is the soundtrack. It’s funny, for a movie about a beautiful piece of everday life we take for granted, there is a lot beauty in the movie that one might take for granted on the first pass by. And the band that adds more to the atmosphere of this film than any other is El Ten Eleven. Just to give you an idea, here’s the list of songs they contributed to the documentary:
If I had to compare them to anyone, I’d say you’ll probably enjoy their music if you like Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, God Is An Astronaut, or Tenebre. All the songs from the film are off of their self titled album and “Every Direction is North.” You can find both of them on iTunes. If you have seen Helvetica and want to know a little more about the rest of the soundtrack, you can check this article.
This song is called Lorge, from their Self Titled album.
BTW, my brother-in-law went to SCAD and still lives in Savannah. I myself live in Las Vegas but was born up in Griffin and went to UGA.
Small world …
@Oliver thanks for the great article! I was really curious about the bands on that soundtrack, your blog set me in the right direction to finding everything. Very cool about the brother in law at SCAD.
