After posting my hack to override webclip icons by forwarding through your own site, Drew at Allinhead.com came up with a bookmarklet to do it without passing through any other site. I like his method better, so I thought I’d post some icons for faster webclip adding.
I modified Drew’s bookmarklet to point to Pixelspread.com/images, so you can just type in the number of the png images below. Here it is:
Bookmarklet
Just add it to your Safari bookmarks and sync it to your iPhone. Then open the Bookmark on the site of your choice, and type in one of the following:
173.png: apple 174.png: digg 175.png: facebook 176.png: flickr 177.png: gmail 178.png: rss 179.png: tumblr 180.png: twitter 181.png: vimeo
Then just make a Webclip of the site, and you’ll see one of these icons. Here’s what they look like

The images are 158×158, which seems to produce a crisper image
Thanks much Matt. I’ll definitely use this when I get my iPhone fixed/replaced.
The touch screen isn’t touchable anymore.
Thanks Matt! Just added Facebook to my home screen and the icon looks great.
Doesn’t seem to work for Twitter – Twitter seems to be serving its own, really low-contrast icon.
@Robb ah so Twitter finally set a webclip icon. I’m not loving it though.
@pauldwaite it is, but it’s a nice icon. one might like to use it for twitter.
