When XTorrent came out, it immediately became my favorite torrent client for the mac. This was however before they charged $15.89 for a license! Now, I don’t have a problem paying for software, especially when the price is reasonable, but for a torrent client? Let’s be real for a second… Aren’t we all using torrent clients to get stuff for free anways? (well, for the record, I use BitTorrent strictly for downloading legal torrents, of course! But I mean everyone else…)
So despite XTorrent’s beautiful mac-ish interface and built in search feature, I decided to move on.
I tried Transmission. It’s simple and and mac-like, but maybe a little too simple. I tried Azureus, which is very powerful, but just doesn’t feel right in OS X. Finally, I gave BitRocket a try.
BitRocket is in very early beta, but already it is fantastic. Not only does it look slick and have a built in torrent search. It has RSS support too!
So if you’re looking for a mac torrent client, check out BitRocket. The only downside I’ve found is that it doesn’t encrypt. So if you are a power torrenter, you’re probably going to want to stick to Azureus.
Crashes on start here, no idea why. I’ll stick to Tomato Torrent ‘cause I don’t really need lots of info about the download—used bandwidth, number of seeds and peers is enough info for me. From what I saw, Transmission has 2 advantages over Tomato, dock icon info and multiple downloads on the same window, but I don’t use any of these.
